DEFINITION
General definition
SEO (abbreviation for Search
Engine Optimization) is a set of measures to increase the visibility of a site
in search engines for targeted search queries.
English abbreviation for the
position of Chief Executive Officer (translated as "Chief Executive
Officer").
Alternative, expanded definition
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
is a set of work on the development of a site, changing its environment,
analyzing user behavior, aimed at improving existing positions for targeted
queries (in Yandex, Google, Mail and other search engines), as well as getting
good positions ( in the TOP-10) for new queries of interest.
The total number and popularity
of promoted queries directly depends on the site traffic from the search and,
consequently, its "promotion".
The set of requests for which
promotion is carried out is called the semantic core of the site.
SEO optimization (search engine
promotion) works include:
·
Analysis of algorithms for ranking search
engines to identify key ranking factors, tracking innovations of search
engines;
·
Analysis of current demand (statistics of search
queries, visits to sites in the subject);
·
compiling a list of promoted queries (semantic
core);
·
work to improve the site itself (internal
optimization);
·
work to increase the citation of the site and
the number of its references in the network (external optimization);
·
work on the analysis of user behavior on the
site and on the SERP pages (improvement of behavioral factors);
·
Tracking results (positions on target queries,
traffic) and making adjustments to the current work scheme.
TRACKING THE RESULTS OF PROMOTION
WORK
Two key metrics are used to track
the results of website promotion and optimization - site positions for targeted
queries (visibility) and search traffic for commercial queries (CPC is
additionally calculated - the cost of attracting 1 target visitor through the
channel).
SITE POSITIONS IN SEARCH RESULTS
To determine the position of the
site, you need to set: a search query, a search engine and a promotion region.
Figure 1 shows the results of Yandex in the Moscow region for the key query
[Website promotion and development].

and production of sites] (3). The first place in the search results (4) is the

TRAFFIC FOR TARGETED REQUESTS
Analytics systems, such as
Yandex.Metrica and / or Google Analytics, are used to analyze traffic from the
SERP. These systems allow you to evaluate targeted traffic, its size, specific
search queries that are clicked on and other information useful for SEO. Figure
2 shows an example of the analysis of traffic entering the site for requests
that contain the word "doubled *". The report was received using the
Google Analytics analytics system.

with the word "doubled *" (2) and its absolute value (3).
SEO AND CONTEXTUAL ADVERTISING
Sometimes natural search results
on request (which sites have as a result of their search engine optimization)
are confused with contextual advertising, as well as mixing in specialized
Yandex services.
Fig. 3 shows an example of
separating natural search results (SEO) and advertising results (contextual
advertising) in the Yandex search engine; a specialized result, Yandex.Market,
is highlighted separately.
Difference between Direct, SERP
and Market
Figure 3: a branch on the page
for contextual advertising (1), a blended Yandex service - Market (2) and
natural search results (3). The position of the mixed service (2) may vary
depending on user behavior on the SERP.
In this case, natural results (in
general) are more attractive to users, since they do not represent paid
advertising and, therefore, generate more trust and generate more targeted
traffic to the site.
TIMING OF SEO RESULTS
In general, it takes from 3 weeks
to 9-12 months to get a return after the launch of work on website promotion. The
timing is determined by the level of competition on demand and the general
level of competition in the promoted topic. Also, factors such as:
Site age (criterion of trust in
the site from the search engine);
The number of sites that are
actively promoting in this topic (criterion of "density" of the
results of the issue);
Total traffic on the site
(criterion for assessing the usefulness of the site for users);
The number and quality of
resources that link to the promoted site (criterion of the authority of the
resource);
The number of documents relevant
to the request on the site (assessment of the compliance of the site topic with
the search query);
Organization of workflow and
reporting, due to automation tools, the time for mechanical operations in SEO
is significantly reduced ( PromoPult / SeoPult , Pixel Tools and others ). For more on
