What is Page Speed Insights?

Page Speed Insights is part of Google's Speed Tools suite. It analyzes web pages, identifies their weaknesses and offers a solution to speed up page loading. Convenient and easy to use. The system does not calculate the speed of loading the page of the site, but the assessment of indicators that can affect it. Web designing course wants to teach the beginners.

To inspect a web page, go to Page Speed Insights and enter the URL of the page to analyze in the field. The tool does not analyze the work of the site as a whole, but of a separate page on it.

You will receive 2 analysis results - for mobile devices and desktops. The maximum score is 100. There are three levels of the indicator:

1.         Low, up to 49 points,

2.         Average, from 50 to 89 points,

3.         High, from 90 to 100 points.

Previously, scores were calculated differently: after platform updates, metric thresholds increased. This year, Page Speed Insights will switch from version 5 to version 6 of Lighthouse. Lighthouse is a tool that analyzes load times, accessibility and search engine optimization of web pages.

In the sixth version, there will be new indicators for measurements, and the old ones will reduce the impact on the overall score. Already now on the website Loading. Express you can find out the performance of the site on the Lighthouse 6 version.

The system also shows: how long it takes for the first content to load on the page, its main part, how many seconds it takes for a full-fledged user interaction with the resource, the general speed index, etc.

Take a look at the list of optimization and diagnostic options. Correcting the settings according to the recommendations can help to load information on the site faster. This does not directly affect the PSI's bottom line.

When does Page Speed Insights Matter?

PSI is a great tool to help you find problems that are not always obvious on your site. It will most likely not help speed up site loading, but it will play a role in improving overall functionality.

Many of the tips are really helpful for improving your site's loading speed. For example, using browser cache or minifying scripts and images. But not all recommendations may be effective for your site or compatible with some plugins.

Important: Following the suggested PSI fixes may degrade the site's performance. Entrust the website optimization work to a professional team so as not to accidentally degrade its functionality.

Why you shouldn't take it as a basis?

PSI analysis is a simulation of the loading of web pages from users. Basically, the indicators are measured from Europe, and page loading depends on the location of the server. The closer the server is to the main audience, the faster their pages load.

PSI excludes optimizations to speed up page loading and offline caching. Most importantly, PSI checks network latency, excludes server side processing.

Also, bug fixing may not affect PSI because:

1.         The result may change even without additional updates on the site,

2.         The system does not calculate the site speed,

3.         There is no official information from Google about the impact of PSI results on SEO promotion. Web designing course is the best chance to learn web development.
